Since 2010, I have been facilitating professional development for artists, social workers, advocates, activists and therapists. I think of these workshops, keynotes and presentations as co-learning opportunities, respecting the knowledge of each participant while introducing new information and approaches.

Through my experience teaching at the college level since 2011 and as a community artist since 2007, I have rich knowledge about curriculum development. As the co-founder of an art and activist collective dedicated to disrupting rape culture, I am experienced in managing budgets, grant-writing, designing communications campaigns, organizational development and fundraising. My workshops cover a variety of topics, including how to create educational experiences through art; the integral role of art in social transformation and justice; anti-oppressive values for non-profits; understanding the intersections of rape culture, white supremacy and colonialism; and developing accessible educational resources. Each of my sessions are grounded in anti-racist values and practices. I believe that the below tools are useful for people from a variety of fields, and, I am especially passionate about sharing this information with those who are dedicated to social justice.

To the right, you can find a sampling of the workshops I offer. I would also be happy to work with you to create a session that fits your needs. Rates and fees are on a sliding scale.

Please note that any of these workshops can be adapted to a 90-minute session, a day-long workshop, or a longer term engagement to suit your needs.

You can email me by filling out the form below to inquire about bringing me to your school, organization or community group, and I will develop a custom proposal.

  • Campaigns to Grow Our Movements. In this workshop, I share tools for creating holistic campaigns that build momentum for social justice movements. By first centering in on your vision for a more just world, the training will support you in determining strategic sites and opportunities for intervention. Then, you will learn how to connect the dots between communications, fundraising and public art and media, to deepen the impact of your efforts. Participants will have a chance to map out the strategy for their own campaign by the conclusion of this training.

  • Grassroots Fundraising. In this workshop, I cover the basics of grassroots fundraising, including how to build your donor base; considering the participants in your organization or movement as part of this base; tips for planning a successful giving campaign; how to make “the ask,” and creative ways to make your donors feel appreciated. I’ll be facilitating the workshop from a foundational principle — that when you ask people to give to your work, you’re giving them a chance to be part of it. Participants will leave with concrete tools to create your own campaign.

  • Art and Resistance. Art plays an essential role in social resistance to dominant culture and political organizing against oppression. It is a key to shifting cultural consciousness and mainstream perspectives. When social activists tell their own stories and counter mainstream narratives in visual forms, they capture the public imagination, creating room to envision new realities. In this workshop, I speak about my own experiences of seeing how art transforms social movements, discussing campaigns and projects I have been involved in at various levels, including Luminous Intervention, the United Workers, FORCE, and Art-Partheid.

  • Telling Your Story: Communications Design and Strategy. Only you can best represent your perspective. In this workshop, we’ll explore the impact of well-designed communications campaigns and how they can contribute to your social justice goals. It can be difficult to focus our messages when dealing with complex, interconnected issues, AND, I will work with you in this session to show you how it is possible. We’ll look at effective tactics and discuss ways to build your network of followers and journalists to expand your reach. You will have a chance to design a template for your own campaign.

  • Building a Collective. In this session, I reflect on my journey of co-founding FORCE and being part of its collective development over 10 years. I will share some of the lessons learned and the ones that I am still processing, including the role of self-knowledge in creating an anti-racist and anti-oppressive organization; the value of flexibility and responsiveness; and ensuring that the external values of social-justice oriented organizations also show up internally, in the policies and practices of the organization. I come to this workshop humbly, knowing how much I learned from my colleagues and peers along the way.
